  • Swingarm removal

    Hello All,

I am in the process of replacing the middle drive boot on my XS1100F. Could someone tell me the correct size of the swingarm pivot bolt locknut?

I need to purchase a socket to remove it and this will save multiple trips to the hardware store.

    Thanks.

    27mm or use a 1 1/16" socket HTH
1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )
    1979 XS1100SF (stock-euro mods planned)
    1984 XV700L Virago (to be hot-modded)
    1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim (semi-restored DD)
    1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)

Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

        Hi Larry,
the 27mm (or 1-1/16", they are just about the same size) socket will also fit the rear axle nut and several other fasteners on the bike.
Sure beats rounding the corners off with a crescent wrench.

LOL. Fred, it sounds like you have your anal out, too.
          "about the same size"?
From the on line conversion site,

          "27 millimeter = 1.062 992 126 inch"
Lets see, rounding off to the 4th decimal, which rounds off to the 3rd decimal, gets us to 1.063, which is .005 larger than .0625. (1/16th. Actually, to be more anal about it, 27mm is only .0004912 inch larger than 1 & 1/16. Half a thou larger, rounded off.) Close enough for Gummit work.

          Yep, about the same size.
