  • Steering race/roller bearing kits

I haven't ordered one of these before, does anyone know if the plastic cup that sit's between the lower triple tree and the lower tapered bearing included in the kit?

Mack, that's actually a seal and is part of the OEM bearing. Some of the aftermarket kits come with it, some don't. If you can get yours out without destroying it, they can be swapped onto the 'plain' bearings. Not a huge deal if it's missing, but expect some 'weeping' if it is.

      Thanx Steve

Looks to me ,that the only way to get the bearing off w/o damaging the seal is to cut it off with a dremel.

I've gotten the bearing/seal off with a cold chisel without totally trashing the seal, but it takes care. Minor damage to the seal won't hurt it, and a bit of sealer on the lower seal face can fix that....

            Removal

I'm going to try to get the old one off today, not much room between the lower tree and the seal face to stick some thing in there to protect the seal but I'll see what I can come up with. Phil do you have a number and source for the All balls kits?

              Kit available at Dennis Kirk....

              https://www.denniskirk.com/all-balls...prd/121424.sku

EBay Canada also has them listed under XS1100 steering bearing.

22-1004 is the All Balls kit number.

The way I remove that lower bearing is to first cut the bearing cage off with a pair of dykes and remove the roller bearings. The inner race has a prominent lip on the top which makes a great place for a bearing separator to hook onto. Using a harmonic balancer puller and 2 long bolts or all thread, the race can be pulled off cleanly, saving the seal which is underneath.

                Races

I thought new races would have been included with the kits?
