    Thanks Gerry,

Actually, all I need is the dynamo portion, to replace the tin can and total loss electrical system.
I heard that some outfit in the UK was selling a replacement for the dynamo that was an alternator. When I get more time, I will look into that.
    Good luck with the valves,

    CZ

Yep, that is the item. And I can see why the guy felt his Magdyne was worth $500.
Maybe I'll win the lottery, or I could pull a TC and cobble a Suzuki car alternator in there.
Thanks for the info, I'll save it for when my ship comes in.

        Later, CZ

Yes,wish I could win the lottery. This engine rebuild of my xs11 is costing a fortune.I have had it bored to match the 1196 pistons I bought from Japan and now am getting the new Guides and valves fitted in the head so hopefully I'm nearly ready to put it back together.
Anyway good luck with the BSA --- something will turn up.Patience is a great thing!!!.
          Cheers

I've found that priority mail to NZ can take a month to get there and sometimes doesn't. It's expensive but I ship all small items like these by express mail in a padded envelope with even more padding. It costs $45 but gets there in a week or less and can be tracked. Also the first $100 insurance is included in the price...

I still have one of those custom stainless intake valve for the later bikes but I have 2 full engine sets for the 78 and 79 models. There doesn't seem to enough demand to custom order any more of them...

Big inlet valve or small inlet valve

Ok guys now I have a problem. The inlet valves I got off MP I am perfectly happy with so this isn't the issue.
But when I checked them against the ones in my engine I find they are the big ones (38mm) and my engine has the smaller 36mm ones.
I checked the part numbers against my engine number and my bike should have the bigger valves (which Mike sent me).I'm a little confused and can only think of two reasons why this may be; 1 x the Factory may have been using up old stock but I think unlikely with the Japanese (I used to find this with the English),and 2 x some previous owner may have had a mechanical accident with the original head and found and fitted an earlier small valve head off a '78 or '79.
I'm only guessing here and want to ask a question, which is --- can the larger valve be fitted to the small valve head. The machine shop that I'm dealing with said that if I can't find the smaller valves he would be able to machine the head to accept the bigger valves.Has anyone any experience with this and is it feasable as I'm a bit sceptical and don't want to wreck the head as they are unobtainable down here.
Any advice or help would be much appreciated.
In case I've got things completely wrong here are my frame and engine numbers which are matching -- 3X1-000264. My inclination is to go for the smaller valves and not mess about with this head.
I await replies from THE EXPERTS.
              Thanks

You have to swap the head to use the larger valves. Odds are the previous owner swapped the head for a replacement or for performance reasons.

The bigger valves on these engines didn't improve top end performance but with a change in cam profile at the same time gave more mid-range power at a loss of top end.

Personally I prefer the way the 78/79 engines make power rather than the later ones but to each is own... I can sell you a full engine set of stainless high performance valves for a good price if you want to stay with the smaller valve head.
