    Head nuts

Anyone know of somewhere to get new head nuts (the acorn like ones)?

They are still listed as available from Yamaha for about $2.35 ea, there are 2 different types though, tall 12mm hex (early motors) or short 14mm hex (late). IIRC, they have an uncommon thread pitch and are hard(er) to locate aftermarket. Here's a good OEM parts site...

You can also get either chrome or stainless steel head nuts from MikesXS, but these lack the integral washers of the OEM nuts. I know at least a few listers have used these and I haven't heard any negative feedback, but YMMV...

Steve, the washer (washer plate) is listed as a seperate P/N by Yamaha. They are not integral with the nut.

Edit: Ok Steve, I see what you meant, there is wide base on the bottom of the OEM nuts, both tall and short type.

Yes, there is a separate washer under the OEM nuts, but the nut's themselves have a 'washer' built into them. This is what's lacking on the aftermarket nuts...

Got my response in at the same time you edited yours....

Yep, and it seems like only the 78-79 Standards have the tall type. My 79 Special has the short type.
