Well yesterday I bought a '79 standard for $400. Same year as my special so thats cool. Thats where the similarities end. Unlike my special this one is going to be a ground up resto.
It was a bit of a gamble because it didnt run, front caliper and master need rebuild, fork seals shot, exhuast shot, and I forgot my compression gauge. But it had 19k and a beautiful tank so I took it.
Got it home and ran a compression test, 30psi on #1a and 2. So I squirted a little atf in each cylinder and charged the battery and jumped to 130, 130, 130, 120. So thats good.
Well now to why I'm posting. I started on the carbs today and have a couple issues. First, the PO put plastic floats in #1 and #2, but 3 and 4 have the correct brass. Also two of the T's fittings rubber is shot.
Is it best to try to find some brass floats? The other two don't look great, but were not full of fuel. Or should I replace all with plastic and set the floats at 23mm?
Where do I find the T's? I have never seen them for sale. I remember vaguely seeing someone had made them from brass with o-ring grooves. Is my best bet finding some brass T's and machining them?
Thanks for reading my as always overly long post and for any help.
