Emblems for standard cheaper

For those who have been looking Power Sports just recently reduced price on their emblems for the 1980/1981 Standard gas tank to 10.28 http://www.powersportsplus.com/parts...161-00-00.html these are the Yamaha originals. Most places carry these for more than $40.00

Let you know for sure when mine get here on the 28th. It does show them availiable and they processed the order and put a delivery date of the 28th so we will see.

Let us know what shows up; I'm still a bit suspicious about this listing. So, did you order two of the number you linked to (which is the left side), or did you order a left and a right as per OEM? And they show this as being used on the '78-81 standards, but the '81H used a different emblem with no screw attachment but was instead attached with two-sided tape (as well as having different style lettering).

Not trying to rain on your parade (I'd love to have a set of OEM emblems for my '78), but the wrong part at a good price is still the wrong part....

I just checked. At this time those emblems are shown as "obsolete". You can not add them to the cart.

Actually, they're not the same.....

There's three different types of standard fuel tank emblems (six if you remember that these are left/right fit, not the same for both sides), with two distinctly different lettering styles. The '78-79 are screw-on, and have 'outlined' lettering on both the tank and sidecovers. The '80 has 'solid' lettering but fits the same way, and the '81 has the same style of lettering as the '80 but is a stick-on type. The '80 and '81 sidecover emblems are the same. You'll find mistakes in how these are listed (showing as being 'correct' for the wrong bike) numerous places, even the 'official' Yamaha site shows the same part number for all. But remember, these are service parts, not necessarily what was installed as OEM. But if you look carefully here:

The YT03 is for the '78-79 bikes, the YT10/11 are for the 81 and 80 bikes respectively. The sidecover badges are the YS03/26 for the '78-79 bikes, and the YS25/27 for the '80-81 bikes (except MNS of course...). It should also be pointed out that the Special tank emblems are different from the standard bits as the tanks are shaped differently, so there's actually five different emblem types. These 'generic' repos have to be formed to fit the two types of tanks.

None of this is important unless you're trying to do an accurate restore... but it is if you are...

Removal

Since we're on the subject of emblems. Has anyone been able to successfully remove the Venturer emblems without damaging them? I'm cleaning up my new bike and would like to replace or refurbish the badges, but I'm a bit worried about breaking them while going through the process of removable. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

I have not tried it, but fishing line is supposed to be good for removing decals.

Two New Ones

I have two new ones for anytank that DOES NOT have
the screw holes to mount the emblem, I bought an extra pair
when I bought a set for my 81 Venturer
They attach with 3M double-sided molding & trim tape
Will take $22 mailed to you in bubble envelope
These have NO SCREW HOLES, just to be sure U know

I also have to remove my emblems soon so let us know how you get on.
I have heard about the fishing line idea too but ofcourse have not tried it yet.
I am thinking of a couple of pieces of dowel to wind the line around and form two handles then keep the line as close to the tank as possible and work it back and forth. dental floss might also work
