That line was full of crud and will remove the other line tomorrow.Just got some new Tygon.I already took and cleaned the octy and the petcocks flow nicely.I didn't have a lot of crap in the carbs as i run 2 fuel filters.1980 XS1100 SG

OK hit and miss today. The tygon i ordered is pretty thick and no matter what would not go on.I went to Advanced Auto and got 1/4' ID black fuel line and used a fuel filter in the meantime. The carbs now are getting plenty of fuel, but found out when i cleaned the carbs on Sunday, the float valve rubber tip came off causing an obstruction and fuel would not flow into the screen.I found that this afternoon.I put on a used float valve that didn't look to bad.Still got to order new float valves as i think they are slightly leaking.I didn't do a sync yet that's why i think it is running bad.And also the bike started up fine this afternoon and before i left the battery died.Checked all my connectors will take a volt reading tomorrow.1980 XS1100 SG

Hi oldyam80sg, glad to see ya makin' some progress on your bike.
How long did the Tygon fuel line stay flexible ?
Is it any better than the line ya just got from the parts store ?1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )

I bought Tygon line from Pingel i believe and it was good-went on easy didn't come off and lasted so far(2 years).I got line also from Dennis Kirk-Motion Pro line and it internally collapsed. The line i got most recently had a thick inner wall and wont go on the octy let alone the petcock.1980 XS1100 SG

The black fuel line sold at a lot of auto part stores will break down and clog lines.Good for cars bad for bikes I'm told.Just ordered 20' of fuel line from e-bay.1980 XS1100 SG

Does anyone know all the inside diameters of the fuel, vacuum, and over flow lines on the '80G and '79SF ?
Also is the vacuum line anything special to keep from collapsing under pressure or will Tygon work ?
I ask this in preparation to purchase a bulk supply of Tygon tubing for all my bikes from this supplier:
http://emurdock.com/tygon-small-engine-fuel-line.aspx
Also I am curious of Tygon's shelf life as I have to store it for a few years.

Ihe 1/4" ID should be fine for fuel line. IIRC, the correct size is 5.5 or 6MM ID which is in between 3/16" and 1/4". The 3/16" will be too tight. Not sure of the vacuum line size, maybe 1/8"Last edited by bikerphil; 01-17-2013, 06:54 PM.2H7 (79) owned since '89
