Good to hear from you, you haven't been keeping up on this thread!

Been talking about swapping the FRONT wheel from a Special over to a Standard, and the bike was one I found on Craigslist, so no CZ involvement other than a consult or two on the phone and a few PM's.

CZ's bike I was considering was a good bit rougher overall, and had a super dark blue (almost black unless viewed in the right light) paint job. CZ can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear when it comes to these bikes, so I am sure my fix up will pale in comparison to his efforts.

And yes, manufacture date equates very nicely with production date... But what I hear you saying is every XS will have a production date in the previous year relative to the model year it is? As in none were made in the same year as their model year?

In any case, after all the hub-bub and speculation, this bike looks to be a 1980, other than the 160 mph speedometer that must have been grafted on by some previous owner.

I do look forward to the much better riding position for my 6'11" frame, I have liked the Standard riding position as much as any bike I've ever owned, from the first time I rode CZ's 80G when we first met a few years ago.

Keep you all posted, really looking forward to having a Standard XS in the stable!

Enquiring minds would like to know if you ever checked your serial numbers with the ID chart and if the same serial number is on the engine as well as the frame?
This info could answer a myriad of questions to yet be posted.

As mentioned I would do, in post #11 first page (had to get that in again, heh, heh, heh), I have now checked the serial numbers, and it is indeed a 3H5 bike, henceforth called an 80G in the prestigious Ruby Red color

Steering head label, engine and title agree with one another, so it's been Franken'd to the extent of a 160 mph speedo, which I am not complaining about.

Looking forward to going through it, gonna take a good bit of neglected maintenance from forks to brakes to mid/final drive, carbs, engine oil, exhaust, etc, etc, etc. But the makings are there for a good solid runner!

Hi Howard,
all XS series disk brake front wheels and speedo drives are the same.
Post 77 XS650 plugs right in, Earlier XS650, XS750 & XS850 need late model XS650 or any year XS11 disks because the early XS650 disks are dished wrong and the XS750/850 disks are a smaller diameter.
Right now my XS11SG is wearing an XS650 cast front wheel because it had a nice tire on it.

To those questions concerning manufacture date.....yes and yes. Look at the left-side steering neck on your 81Special to verify the 'yes and yes'. Wheel swaps in front.....both the same plug and play.........and none of this happened without pics.........
