Question:

Front tire needs replacing on the 79/80 hybrid...

Can I swap over the wheel/tire from my 80SG to this bike for some riding until the new tire I've ordered arrives? I realize I have a leading axle on my 80SG, maybe that makes it a no go?

No difference in the axle in terms of it mounting to the Std fork is a good thing! I know the SG inside and out, not versed in the std models, so good to learn the commonalities!

I was under the impression that the speedo ring was on the opposite side....or is it just the axle nut that's on the opposite side?

Looking at the pictures of your F, the axle nut is on the opposite side of the Specials. However, I also see the speedo drive cable on the same left side as on the Special.

Now, I know from other post on here that the speedo drive is different between the two, but I do not know if the way they mate up to the wheel is different. If they are the same it would probably not be to much trouble to swap wheels. If different it may be more toruble than its worth.

Yeah, for just a few days of riding before a new tire arrives, sounds like the wheels won't be an easy swap, but I'll look side by side. I'll just polish and shine up the new to me 79F/80G/7980FG and get after all the other stuff it needs while waiting on the tire.

Mechanically, all the XS/XJ11 front wheels are the same. Yes, there's differences in style and the tube/tubeless wheels, but none of these things will affect swapping wheels. Bearings, speedo drive tangs, seals, etc are all the same....

I've had all types (tube, tubeless, XS and XJ) in my hands and there's no differences mechanically. You do need to use the model-specific axle, speedo drive, hardware because of fork differences but that's it....

All the front axles are exactly the same, Special and Standard. They are just installed left to right on the Standard, right to left on the Special. One difference not mentioned with the front wheels is IIRC, the Special has shorter headed 12MM bolts for the rotors to gain needed clearance for the different speedo drive. The Standard wheel has those tall headed 12MM bolts holding the rotors, speedo drive is not in the way. My 2¢.

On another subject,

The mufflers of Franken Bike will need replaced, corroded out underneath back by the outlets.

What Harley mufflers are a good option? I have a set offered to me from a 2006-2008 Road King (not sure the exact year at this instant), are these an option or is there a specific type of Harley muffler off a specific bike that works best?

Hi there Howard! IIRC, swapping out the rear 17" for the Special 16", spacers stay with their ajoining wheel. Also, for future reference, the manufacturer date was actual production date.........for the upcoming year model, which makes it an 80G. Example: Manufacturer date of my Venturer was 07/80. As Steve stated, any touring hardware would have been added by either dealer or owner. 81 Venturer was the only FACTORY produced tourer/dresser of the whole XS series. BTW, pretty sure I've seen that scoot already at CZ's, correct? If so, yup, an 80G.....and complete.....just add some TLC, minimal wrenching, and some cosmetic replacements. That Standard will give your really t-a-l-l stature some relief compared to the Special. HappyThanksgiving!
