Is there a source for a replacement reservior for the E front m/c. Or rear for that matter. Both mine are rotten. They cleaned up ok but the plastic is rotten and flaking

Unfortunately, no. You can't even use a later style as they're different. You can swap complete M/Cs though....

Or you can try this.... http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...ight=reservoir

I did mine as you would a modern plastic headlight lens. I did it as in Steve's link, but I went to maybe 2000 grit to finish. I followed with a clear coat. I used the stuff in a headlight kit because I had it. It doesn't look as new, but the result is very good. It is certainly no longer yellow and chalky.

U can always swap the MC from one off another XS, such as a 750. I'd go with one from an XJ if I were you. They are nicer looking. I'm tired of that old look. Mine is looking pretty rough too. Fortunately I have an extra that is in much better shape that I'll throw on in the winter when the bike is down due to snow.

So the XJ750 M/C will work on a '79SF? I need to replace mine on this rebuild, it is completely shot. Any particular year or will anyone do just fine?

Check bore size of the one you want to use. The stock XS11 bore is 11/16", some have gone to a smaller bore but you need to install braided stainless lines if you go that route. A 5/8" bore is acceptable, smaller can be iffy....

I am installing a complete m/c off of a Yamaha Raptor 660. It's what another member did with good results. It looks pretty good, too. More of a modern looking one. It's a few posts below this one...

like Steve says, bore size is a key, make sure it's from a dual disk front set-up... I got one from a Blaster, all aluminum....I will use it after mine will stop working
