    Thanks All

Thanks for all the good responses.
I knew the red one had after market pipes of some kind.
I was thinking the grey was probably stock.
I have most of the winter to work on these as I can,but I am really trying first to just get them running and see what I do have.
I bought a 6inch buffer from harbor frieght last week so I can polish aluminum as I go.(I love that thing)I don't know why I didn't buy one years ago.
Between last weekend and this I got the carbs cleaned and synced on the grey one.Its running fairly good now.
I am going to put every thing back together on it and put it back in the corner covered up so I can work on the one I'm keeping and see what I have there.

Dave, Welcome. You have come to the best place possible to get any information and help to get those bikes up and running. These guys are great!

        Update

I've had some time to get the silver one running fairly good and back together. It's running better everytime I run it.
I did't have a carb sync and wanted to sync the carbs while I had time so I was not waiting to order one. So I built my own from some Ideas I found on the web. It worked great I may buy one someday to see how accurate it is compared to store bought.
        Heres a pic

Here is some pics of the silver one back together

Its ready to put in the corner and cover up while I build a kitchen I need to build. It still need fork seals when I get time.
The red one is one the lift now and the carbs are on the bench.
        heres a pic of that.

I bet not every one has a bench on the end of thier table saw that has an electric lift so they can raise and lower it as the want

          Hi Dave,
          love the 4-jar manometer.
If that's ATF in there the device has the potential to be 13 times as accurate as a mercury manometer (or at least, 13 times as easy to read) because of the specific gravity difference between the two fluids.

            First Ride Yesterday

I got to take my first ride on an xs yesterday.
They are both back together and running and looking good.
Just in time for winter to really get here. It was 75 yesterday and cold today with freezing drizzle.
After I get done with the kitchen I am starting tomorrow I will have the rest of the winter to polish and tune a little more.
After spring gets here I have no time for working on them its only fishing and riding spring summer and fall here.Too bad winter lasts 6 months here.
I bought a colortune on ebay last night that should come in handy with 3 motor cycles with 12 carbs between them all.
I am glad the 200 hp evinrude on the back of the ranger is fuel injected I don't need any more toys to work on.

I like it too because it allows differential vacuums between the carbs to be determined rather than "gage pressure" for individual carbs. It is the differential that you are really concerned about. The other thing that is does is dampen the pulsing with the volumes of air above the pool levels.

I'll just bet that this is a good method for fine tuning, but can you imagine having an inch of mercury difference between the most and the other threes carb for vacuum? We are talking about 13 inches of height difference. I believe that one jar would fill and the engine would suck in liquid (if there was enough to reach the nipple in the lid). Maybe it would never be an inch off (of mercury = 13 inches of ATF) if they were adjested with the bread tie method to begin with.
