i can jump across the starter solenoid and start the bike but the ignition and starter button do nothing (unless i use the start button to jump the solenoid). I had the neutral light then i didn't then I did and now i don't. the lights and horn don't work either. I think it might be the actual switches but i cant verify that. a lot of things were modified before i got the bike80 XS11

If the harness has been badly hacked, troubleshooting can be extremely tough. Has the wiring ever worked since you got the bike, or is this a new problem? Do you still have the original fusebox? The fact that you have more than one circuit malfunctioning makes me think the problem is between the battery and the fusebox (main power feed), or maybe the fusebox. You might start here: http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35337 and start tracing and see what you can find...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

Where do you live in SD . I might be able to help . Until then try to download the wiring schematic for your bike or I can send you one . It says you have an 80 right is it a special or standard?91 kwaka kz1000p

I'm in Chula Vista right off the 805. the ignition was engaging the electrical system. The neutral Light came on when I turned it on, then the light went away. I have the manual printed out with all of the diagrams and everything. I think it's a standard. I'm not sure though.80 XS11

Study this, http://http://farm5.static.flickr.co...1ae5cbd4_o.gifuntil you have it memorized, or at least until you can find a component on the schematic as well as the bike.
Then put a jumper across the fuse terminals of the rearmost fuse, and see if anything improves. That's the red/wht and brown wires, at the fuse block. CZLast edited by CaptonZap; 10-12-2012, 07:41 PM.

Believe it or not
Check the grounds for good connection. Factory ground straps are from negative battery terminal to chassis and engine to chassis. These leave room for improvement compared to a direct battery ground to the components.
In the XS11/XJ11 Discussion (forums) see the thread "Believe it or not" for better component grounding.
