    Exhaust Question

    A little future planning question...

I believe the exhaust on my 79 is a Mac 4-2. It seems like the consensus on this site is, there's nothing better than the stock exhaust. What is the limiting factor of the Mac exhaust, is it the header, or the actual mufflers?

One thought I had is removing the Mac mufflers, and getting Supertrapps. This would purely be for aesthetics and sound. It would also be stupid expensive at $300, but I might be willing to do it. I realize I'm most likely not going to gain much if anything performance wise, but this wouldn't actually hurt anything would it?

Ideally, I'd like a 4-1 system; but still think I'd want a Supertrapp sitting on the end of it. It's still cheaper just to do the 2 Supertrapp mufflers on the existing 4-2.

I have a 4-1 Mac header with a Supertrapp can on it, sounds great, has decent power across the whole powerband. Cost me about $120. I definitely notice more power with the Supertrapp can than the Mac can.

Sounds good. What does it look like. I just don't like the way a Mac 4 to 1 header looks. I'd bet a Jardine header with a super trapp can would look great. $120 ??
