I went to a ride the other day on my 79SF and halfway thought the ride, I started to hear a clicking sound from cylinder 1. I now have smoke coming from cylinder 1 and a small oil drip out of the headers and the cylinder meet.

Help Diagnosing Engine Noise

Your #1 header pipe - is it original? The original double-walled pipes can break a weld and rattle inside - might be the "clicking".
I would pull exhaust and check for looseness - clean out exhaust outlets looking for oil - new gaskets and re-install.
You might also check valve clearances - they might be off and could contribute to extra valve train noise - though close tolerances usually mean a quiet valve train versus noisy.

Check compression, you may have a blown head gasket. You might also pull your valve cover and make sure a valve seal didn't work itself loose. If it did, it might be banging around inside the valve spring."The Hooligan" XJ1100, Virago Gauge Pods, Screaming Eagle Mufflers, K&N Filter, hand made rear fender, side covers, and solo seat, round bar conversion, small headlight, tail light, and cat eye turn signals, chip fuses, rewired the right way.
