XJ throttle cable...

Hey everyone...

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about my throttle cable snapping and having to tow my XJ home the day before I left for vacation. Well, I am back from vacation and now I need to replace the throttle cable.

Where's the best place to get a new throttle cable? Thanks...

They are all over the place. I get mine from the cheapest seller on ebay at the time.

XS cable doesn't fit the XJ, Bug.

I see that Boats.net says they have them. The part number is 10M-26311-00-00

Not cheap though, but that's about the going price for them. I don't know if there's an aftermarket cable or not. I found an old Yammy store that had a couple left in stock a while back and grabbed them. I always carry one and a clutch cable with me on trips.

Oh yeah... And the Boats.net link says the part is obsolete and unavailable. I'll refer you to this post though. Looks like you can get them for $26 from Chacal on xjbikes.com.

Since nothing in life is easy, I got a reply back from Chacal saying that the throttle cable is no longer available and they are trying to get a reproduction, but it will be 2 or 3 months.

I couldn't find any used on ebay and the best thing my Google search came up with was this...

It shows it as 32" with a 6" extended length, for a total of 38". Is that long enough? Will that work for my 82 XJ1100? If not…any other suggestions on finding a cable that will work? Thanks for your help…

uses a 5.90mm OD x 6.10mm wide barrel at one end
uses a 5.85mm OD x 4.05mm long flat disc at other end

Some parts are becomming "Unobtainium" or discontinued. The throttle cable is one of them. It's the only bike these cables were put on. I have no idea of the re-tool process or how many you would have to sell to make it worth your while, but would you ever consider making a limited run of these cables? There's still hundreds and hundreds of these bikes on the road and I don't know who else to contact about it. You make the clutch and speedo cables for it still, but the throttle cable is getting to be impossible to find. We have never produced a line of replacement throttle cables for this application so generally we have no information documented.

I don’t see anything in the works to start carrying these as an off the shelf option, but I’d be happy to pass on your request to do so.



In most cases like this it’s best to send the cable in for duplication. While we can’t be 100% sure of what we can do in till we receive the cable for review, we can usually duplicate most throttle cables.



Just to supply all the info I can, the cost to custom make a black vinyl throttle cable I would estimate to be $35.00 to 50.00 per cable excluding any shipping cost.



The current turnaround time to complete a custom cable order is 6-7 working days excluding shipping time.



All custom cable orders are prepaid on a credit card with a no return policy unless for warranty consideration. We do require the billing address on the card is the same as the ship to on the order and the card holder is the one placing the order.

So.. if you sent him your old cable along with the specs that that Len guy sent, it sounds like they might be able to make a new one? I would suggest to them, though, that the plastic end up at the throttle handle be replaced with metal like the XS cable is. If I didn't have a couple extras already, I'd probably try this out. If someone lived anywhere near this plant, it might be a big benefit to others if they could take an old cable by and see if they can even reprodoce it, and how much they think it would be, along with any discounts for multiple orders if we got a group buy from people here.
