BTW, your ST has an oil cooler too, which I'm sure doesn't attribute to them being 300,000mi. motors.......just sayin...

Okay, been doing some research on this and here's what I've found so far.
The Standards (80-81) have a 14mm valve on them. PN: 3H5-23190-00-00
These are No Longer Available (NLA)

The Specials (80-81) have a 10mm valve on them. PN: 5K7-23190-00-00
These are still available and are found on quite a few bikes up to '95. (allmost $30)
(You can see the different size bolt heads in my pics in my 9th post in this thread)

Crazy Steve says that the thread size is different between the standard and the special, so no joy using the SG's. (I am going to verify this to be certain)

I did find a very old thread here that said the Suzuki GS1100 (80-83) PN: 51293-49001 is the exact part and it worked for a fellow member.
These are still available at about $15.

So my search begins for a Suzuki air valve..... Unless someone here wants to donate one for a G(H) to me cheap.

George, I may have an extra air valve laying around for the Standard forks. I sent one to another member not too long ago and probably have another, I'll check for you.

Sorry bro, I only have the smaller type for the Special forks which won't help you.

              forks

I have the complete air assist forks setup for a 81 standard or venture as they call it, needs new seals also would throw in the calipers and brakes even a front fender if you want them for 75.00 plus shipping.

Is there a chance that someone mixed up the caps? Lost the original? Maybe just a cap? Maybe a hens tooth?

I won't know for sure until I get them apart and verify the springs in there.

                  Phil, thanks for looking.

DCracer25, Thanks for the offer, but my forks are okay, just a leaky seal. I've had the new seals sitting on my shelf for about 6 months, just waiting for an opportunity and enough bravado to get it done.

                    Update

So, I ended up getting a GS1100 valve for cheap on fleabay.
It threaded in just fine into the G forks, but like the previous pics, it's a 10mm nut size like the SG.
So on the right side, I've got the bigger looking 14mm size and on the right the 10mm one.
The right side one has the original valve cover/cap which covers the entire thing. (sorry no pic) while the available caps for the smaller SG ones are just like a metal tire air valve cap. (with a slot for a screwdriver on the top)
I don't have a cap right now, so I just used a plastic valve cap to keep the debris out.

Now it's time to get the fork seal changed out so I can put some pressure in these forks and hopefully ease up my ride a little.

                      Found a pic.

You can see how the whole cap covers the entire air valve.

Where as the SG caps are different:

This one is for a XZ550RK VISION 1983, but is the same shape.

George, I believe that you have either measured wrong or my parts bike is wrong. The ones on my G are 12mm. I am not 100% sure they are original either.
I think that the forks have not been disturbed for some time. That does not mean that the fork caps have not been changed.
Here are some pics of what I have:

Yours for a simple PM of your address if they are right for you. If they do not appear right then they may live a long and happy life in my garage.

Yep. The G & H were the only ones to get the 14mm nut and the chrome cover.
Though it looks like there may be some black ones for some later models.
