Looks good. But....... the rivets look a bit naff, IMO/ Pop rivets aren't really attractive per se, are they? Couldn't you use stainless allen bolts, or allen countersun bolts or something nicer than rivets?XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. XS750 final drive (sometimes). Looking pretty good.
Maybe fill in rivets and paint silver or black?

I must admit it is growing on me but I still think it is not for me. Kudo's for your effort and yes there will be many that will like it as each of us has our likes and dislikes. If you doubt this ask Fredintoon if he likes hardtails.2-79 XS1100 SF

I like the rivets. I'm going to keep them. Maybe just a touch of rouge and buffing the rivet heads. Not enough material to screw to was the main reason in choosing rivets. To each his/her own though. It's going on my bike and nobody else's so now I've reached a spot where I am satisfied. With this one anyway... :-)BARE BONES CHOPPERS: If it don't make it go faster, you don't need it!

I am not trying to diss you in any way. Just trying to give honest feedback so you know what others think. By all means it is your bike and you do what you want to it. Never mind me. If my bikes were all shiny and looked like some who polish the bejeezus out of them then maybe I would think it would look ok on my bike.2-79 XS1100 SF

No offense taken mate, if I were the kind to be easily put off by other peoples' opinions, I wouldn't be posting on a forum, and I damn sure wouldn't be asking for people's thoughts if I wasn't stubborn and thick skinned. :-)BARE BONES CHOPPERS: If it don't make it go faster, you don't need it!

Rather unique. Wouldn't go with it myself but cool nonetheless. I'm reminded of the clear acrylic distributor caps popular in hot rodding back in the day.
They lacked any real function but looked cool as hell at night showing off all of the secondary ignition inside the distributor like a small fireworks display.
I fear however you may find your concept will meet with the same fatal flaw as the clear distributor cap, poor durability; the heat and engine vapors will quickly render the window no longer transparent. But please don't let that discourage you from continued innovation and fabrication as that is really one of the few truly rewarding pursuits in life.
And you can always replace the window......'78 E "Stormbringer"

Perhaps in time. Polycarbonate is significantly more durable than acrylic, but it eventually may need replacing, but hopefully not for some time.BARE BONES CHOPPERS: If it don't make it go faster, you don't need it!

This is the layout on the stator cover. It's gonna have a 64mm hole in the center, then a ring, with 3 spokes going out from the original screw holes, to the outside edge, which will disappear behind the window and stainless trim ring.BARE BONES CHOPPERS: If it don't make it go faster, you don't need it!

Just thinking, there is electrical stuff going on behind that cover, and the field coils. I can see your looking and thinking about it, just thinking there is a chance of screwing up the alternator if your not careful.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Ya I had thought of that, but I'm not too worried about it. It works on James' XJR and worst case scenario I need to buy a new used cover... Which, my existing one has a healthy sized crack, and even a missing piece, which I have replicated in epoxy for now... So with this one I am really out nothing if it ends up not working out. Thanks for the input though! I kinda hope there is a light show in there, would make for an interesting night conversation piece...BARE BONES CHOPPERS: If it don't make it go faster, you don't need it!

I parked my XJR outisde a local hotel last night and it immediately drew an appreciative crowd, all very interested in the engine casings. Very gratifying!I must confess, I do think it looked nice, witht he clutch on display etc. The 'glass' is so clean that it lookslike there's nothing there at all. Really nice.
BTW, my cases have a ring of alloy welded inside in order to take the allen bolts which hold the external retaining ring on. Same diameter as the outer ring, so not visible inside.
Modern polycarb sheeting is vastly better than the old PVC stuff. I can't imagine heat etc destroying it quickly at all but, as has been pointed out, the 'glass' is easily replaced anyway.......time will tell.XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. In the old days you used to be able to buy clear carb bowls for popular bike models. Clear carb bowls are about the only part I would care to have clear on my bike.
