Agree with the others. You were running on the battery since it wasn't charging for some reason. Since it's obviously night now, you'll need a light, but like John said, if you hook up some jumper cables to a car and let it charge for a bit, 15 miles on just the battery shouldn't be a problem, just try to keep things minimum. Don't use turn signals and keep the headlight on low beam. If the battery gets below @ 10.8 volts, not even the kick starter will help you.
Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

Thanks for all the help. Like I said I finally made it home. I decided I'm going to work on it tomorrow. I pulled the battery out and charging it tonight so I can do the charging system test with my multimeter tomorrow.

I bought a sealed battery nearly 3 yrs ago for the XJ and its still fine...i hate batteries you have to add fluids to...they can leak spilling battery acid that can acid stain your chrome exhaust...ask me how i know...so i went to a Gel battery and never looked back...

              help

Hi, I can help Scoot and you load it up this eve, afternoon, I also have a ramp and trailer, plus it would be good meeting a few more xs owners. Let me know, otherwise its off to the beach to surf. I am BETTING its your battery. I had same problem with a sealed battery, it died within a year. Some of the better ones last a long time, the cheaper Chinese ones die quick.........at least we can check it out for you, I can pull out one of mine and fire up your bike and see,,,,,,,, Mike in Valley Center

                late

Uh,,,,I posted previous post after reading first page of forum, glad you made it home. Definately charge the battery up,,,,NOW TAKE IT TO AN AUTO STORE TO TEST IT,,,any PEP BOYS, AUTOZONE etc, can hook it up to a machine and test it for you and get a true reading of the battery. AND, now if battery tests good, pop it in the bike, get a multimeter and test voltage on a running bike across the battery and a non running bike across the terminals,,,,,it should read over 12v. running and less non running if your battery is good and charging is good. Keep us informed........Mike in S.Diego

I got the battery checked at AutoZone and they said the battery was good. When I read the battery before I started the bike it read 12.6 v and after I started it the battery was reading 12.3v and was slowly going down. Definitely the charging system.

Just read through the stator and it is definitely bad. I'm about to check the one on my spare engine to see if its good. If its not good does anyone know anywhere in San Diego that will have them in stock and about how much one cost?

Thanks again everyone for the quick replies yesterday.

I put the stator in from my spare engine because it read good. The battery read 12.51 before I started the bike and 13.3 after I started it.

                      You guys are awesome.

We have the local guys in San DIego, so don't be a stranger. Garth and me love to go up your way to the Casinos and eat for a short xs run....see ya, Mike in Valley Center

Yea something like that sounds good. Send me a message sometime. Or get my number from Garth. He helped me out and took a look at my rotors back in Feb. If he doesn't have it just send me a pm and I can get it to you.
