  • Brake warning light XJ11

I just attended to one warning light issue http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...826#post381826 and there is yet another that has me confused with how to proceed.

The brake light warning light comes on frequently. It is often on soon after I start the bike and turns off for long periods but when I turn off the bike for awhile, the light comes back on. Whatever I do to the front brake seems to have no bearing, it's seemingly the rear brake that causes the fault but by habit I use both brakes at the same time.

I checked the fluid level and it was fine. I did add more fluid till the reservoir was 100% full and still the warning light comes on every so often. I never had this issue till several weeks ago. There seems to be no issue with the brake working properly, both front and rear calipers were rebuilt & there's new brakes all around. I replaced all the original hose lines with SS lines last year.

Idears what I might do to resolve this?

    Thanks

Those are nothing more than little floats in the reservoirs, they may be dirty. I think these are reed switches (magnetic operation), so they can be affected by crud.

I've not looked inside the rear MC for the floats, only seen the one in the front MC reservoir. How might I best go about cleaning these switch contacts? They are immersed in new fluid but they had been sitting for a long time before I got the bike & restored it.

      Thanks!

I haven't actually had mine apart (I converted to 'normal' brakes so I'm not using the XJ masters), but assuming they're similar to most that I've ran into it's just a small float with a magnet in it; it's a common design as it doesn't need to be 'sealed'. They collect 'stuff' over time and don't float as well. Best bet is clean/flush the reservoir out, you may have to re-bleed the brakes.
