  • oil light

    Recently the oil indicator has been coming on. It lasts for roughly 20 seconds and then goes out. It happens under acceleration but continues when I'm going at a steady speed. When the bike is on the center stand the level of oil is 2/3 up the window. I changed oil 3K ago and installed a K&N filter at the time. I don't recall the amount of oil but it was from the service manual with a filter change.

    Any suggestions?

    Your sensor may need to be pulled and cleaned.

      I just pulled it but it's not something with moving parts on the outside. What is safe to use to squirt in it or dip it in? I assume I then should shake it to move the internal float?

        I would use Marves Mystery Oil or some penitrating oil. You would need something that will break up any build up in there.

          I decided to give a try with seafoam in a narrow cup that fit the sensor. I soaked it in there for 20 minutes or so & drined it, shook the sensor up & down to free it, re-immersed it again & rinse, wash repeated that several times and re-inserted it. Finally it was seemingly free to move and I re-installed it.

          I could only run the bike for maybe 8 miles before leaving it for the weekend but during that 8 miles, the sensor light didn't come back on. So perhaps a'la Borat; Great Success!

          If it comes back on, I'll revive this post.

          I have issues with the brake light but I'll put that in a separate post.
