SG Header question

    SG Header question

    On a Stock SG, do the headers come out of the collectors?
    In other words, my flanges are a bit rusty, (see the rusty nuts thread)
    and I was wondering if it was possible to pull the headers off and thus get the flanges off so I can blast them or evaporust them.

    Idea: heck if I can get the header off, then I can evaporust the entire header pipe flange and all!
    I suppose I'd need a suitable conatiner to put the header in.
    Do you think a heavy duty trash bag would hold up to the evaporust?

    Only the inner two head pipes come out; the outer two are welded to the collectors...

          One of those stainless steel toothbrushes and some chrome polish will usually clean those up nicely...

            I wish! If it were just a little bit of rust, I'd say sure I'll try it, but we're talking about all 4 flanges.
            With the exhaust off the bike, I may be able to just dip the header ends (with the flanges on) into a small container of evaporust and get them rust free that way.

              Try this...

              Loosen exhaust from engine.

              Get heavy plastic sheeting about 8" square.

              Form cone around top of pipe with flange inside and ziptie and tape to pipe.

              Pour Evaporust(TM) into plastic.

              Drink a cold beverage for 30 minutes. (OK several)

              Drain fluid back into bottle (its still good) and do next one.

                Awesome John, thanks. I think I'll give that a try. Now I got to go find some at the autoparts store and hopefully SWMBO won't mind me spending a few $.
