I believe Steve meant, if you cna hear it combust every now and then "trying to start" then you have spark in at leat two cylinders. Electricaly the bike is paired up 1-4 cylinders and 2-3. Fuel wise it is paired 1-2 and 3-4.
If gas is flooding out your air box, that could well be why it is not starting, flooding out the cylinder(s). To much gas is a bad thing, to much in your engine cylinders and no happiness.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Check your oil! If gas was filling the cylinders you may have gas in the oil and that destroys bearings.Nathan

If you had gas coming out of your airbox that at least means that your float needles failed to do their job. I don't remember what model bike you have but if you have later model carbs then you should make sure to replace the o ring around the seats when you pull the carbs out to check all the rest.
Again I say, check your oil!Nathan

Hey there Mr. D.,
There are several members in GA, but not sure how close they are to you!?
Here's the link to the Repairs, Electrical tech tips forum section, it's not from the MAIN HOME PAGE, but on the Main Forums page, scrolling down the page you'll find the tech tips!

You say you're charging the battery, but you haven't said how OLD it is? If it came with the bike and is more than 3 years old, then it may be toast, and that could be part of the problem. See Keithh's, recent thread about electrical problems, he's had an intermittent starting problem.
I don't recall the history of the bike, but if it's sat for any time, then corrosion of the electrical connectors is a common source for gremlins, and pulling apart ALL of the connectors, cleaning and such will go a long ways towards eliminating those gremlins.
I have just sold the last 2 fuseblocks in the recent batch I have, but will be ordering more, and if has the OEM glass fuses/holder, that's another source for gremlins, and replacing it will be another problem solved!!

You live very close to me. I would love to come and give you a hand. Unfortunately, I am working down at the ATL and can not get away. We need to get that thing fixed, so you can come to the fall rally.Marty (in Mississippi)
