From discussions on here, the biggest "off the shelf" big bore kit is 1196 cc. I think anything beyond that you need to get special pistons made... The guy probably doesn't know what hes talkin about.
"What they do have is an implacable, unrelenting presence and movement that bespeaks massive power lurking behind paint and chrome. They don't wail like a screeching ninja, the don't rumble like a harley. They just growl like a spactic, stressed out badger waiting to rip your face off and eat your soul." Trainzz~RIP~
May be possible, but you would need new cylinder sleeves and custom pistons made.

In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.
There have been two members that have done this.
Dan Hodges and one other (just can't recall who it was at the moment)
I'll try to find some of the posts if you're interested but they were years ago...
Oh! there WAS a member called Viper who had an engine bored out to 1500.
The bike was called Thor.
I did a search but there wasn't a lot of info for that one...

Seems to me the cylinder walls would be so thin that it would overheat easily.

I know a machinist that would do whatever was necessary to do that for me, he said, "leave to me leave your amex platinum number and I'll get everything to you in about 6 months," then he asked how many donor engines do I have in case he destroys one or two in the process.(mind you he was laughing his head off while wondering about a project this large on a japanese bike from '79) His forte is racing engines but this was beyond his comprehension and my cash flow.(No Drag Bike For Rooster)

The 1196 is as large as you can go with the OEM sleeves; to go bigger, now you're talking about custom sleeves and boring the cylinders/cases for the larger spigots. So this means a complete engine teardown....
As to the overheating issue, yes, this is real. How thin the sleeve gets really doesn't matter (other than having issues with dimensional stability), but you've only got a finite amount of cooling fin area, so that's why Dan recommended a oil cooler (really, it should be mandatory). Where you really need the fin area is on the head; I was looking at big-bore cylinders for my Sporty where you can get everything from a OEM-style aluminum cylinder/machined sleeve, Nicasil all-aluminum cylinders, or a all-cast-iron cylinder. The last choice sheds heat the poorest, but has superior dimensional stability and better longevity. They've found that Harley's shed about 60% of the heat out the head and HD heads have generous fin area, so these work well on bikes that don't block airflow over the motor. The XS head doesn't have that 'extra' fin area...

Dan Hodges calculated a max of 1311 cc. That's more than what i calculated: 1295cc with a 77.5mm bore. That's because I measured the smallest wall thickness as 2.5mm between cylinders 1 and 2 and 2mm at the stud holes.
but for fasr riding an oil cooler will not suffice, you'll need oil cooled pistons (oil sprayed to the bottom of the pistons as some manufacturers do).
