so here I go,this may take a while.
I have a 79 ( 2H7-022441 ) standard ? Weisco big bore (74mm) kit. DynaTek coils , I believe DC-1 ? ( the ones TC recommended ) plus the Dyna wires , 8mm , with stock (?) plug ends. The ballast resistor has been bypassed.
With pods,jetted up,and stock header pipes w/after market mufflers.no
baffles. ran real good.
Posted about it not starting all the time. Had to drop it in gear, bump it, then hit the starter again.sometimes it would start. sometimes not.
Then it seemed I had to do that (above) and pull the clutch lever in ( in neutral ) and it would start instantly.???? STRANGE ?
So now, current condition. no spark.
cleaned and the replaced the kill switch.
battery 12.7 volts. drops to 10.9 while cranking
checked.cleaned.and reconnected coil connections.
11.75 volts to grey coil wire on one coil
same to orange wire on other coil
with ign. on
same voltage to white wires with red stripe
ign.on
cranking, DC volts, pos. lead on orange / neg to ground on frame 1.5 volts
same for grey on other coil.
cranking, DC volts, pos lead on either white with red stripe / neg to ground on frame.8.9 volts
switched TCI out with known good TCI. no difference.
Tested coil pickup ohms at TCI connector.
Yellow with green TO yellow with red wires. 700 ohms
White with green TO white with red wires. no reading
Tested same wires back to connector behind fuse panel.
( which has been a blade type for a few years now )
wires tested fine for continuity and ohms
Tested the pickup ohms, right at the wires,1/2 inch off the pickups.
700 ohms
Tested that lead back to the connection by the fuse panel.
the ONLY reading I get there is between the black wire and the grey wire.
700 ohms
though I don't know why suddely the black wire appears , the orange or baby blue wires don't have any reading at all . no readings in any combos.
I pulled on the coil pickup wires pretty hard. no spagetti. seems solid enough
do you think it is a bad wire, from the coil pickups to the first connector? I hope someone else can gleen some ideal here because I really want to ride now that the rain might finally be getting back to normal ( what really is ? )
anyhow,Thanks ahead of time.sure is a strange bike.but it kinda just takes over doesn't it.
