    They all do.
Mine has about two inches of playback and forth, at the outside of the rear tire, in low gear on thecenter stand. And my splines are not worn perceptably.
Tolerance stack is the term used to describe that.
Don't worry about if it is not much more than that. CZ

The Capton(Zap) came by here today on his way up to Washington on his dressed 80G loaded to the hilt. Thought maybe he was gonna spend the nite, but he was wantin to 'roll' on. With that said, didn't get things taken off scoot to inspect the shaft spines for lube. On the Venturer, the left side exhaust has to come off along with the left-side trunk assembly in order to remove the upper and lower shock retaining nuts. Gonna just wait till I change out the rear tire in a few thousand miles and document with pics here what is found.......and fairly positive in THIS bikes case that the splines are well lubed. Specially when the lube starts getting pushed by the 4 bolt mating surfaces. Cause the way it has been lubed over the years, this would likly be an exception to what others have found, but the majority of others bikes have also had poor, none or unknown maint. by the time they get 'saved' here. So, with that I'll be reporting on this thread with a pic when that tire changin' time comes. Thanks, Brant.
