  • Get in there, damned oil!

I did a filter and oil change today. Drained the oil, took off the filter, cleaned the oil cleaner housing...the usual. After I put it all back together, I put in 3 quarts of oil and it's showing full on the center stand. The manual and past experience says I should be able to put 7/10ths of a quart more in there with the filter change.

Does this indicate I did something wrong? I don't see any reason the oil wouldn't be going into the filter housing.

I put the spring, then washer, then filter in, just like always. New small and large o-rings and Wix filter.

I'm gonna leave it sit tonight, maybe it's just being slow, but I wanted to see if anyone knew if this is gonna be a problem.

    Thanks!

100% correct. You need to run the engine for a minute. Your oil level will drop as the housing fills. Then re-check and add the extra oil

          Let It Sit a While

After the initial start-up, be sure and let it sit a good 10-15 minutes to allow the "cool oil" to drain
and settle back down in the crankcase before adding any more to level it off.
Much easier to add a little than to have to remove too much
