  • And now a new problem soving begins....

Well, after my TCI burning up fiasco, the bike has run really well. Couldnt diagnose a mid rpm stumble, and WOT major stumble, but all was well other than that. I parked the bike fri, and basically didnt ride all weekend, dealing with schoolwork. I go to ride today, and the bike just wants to act stupid. Under 50 mph, as long as i only pull the throttle half way, then the bike acted fine until about 6k rpms, then it would stumble and miss. over 50-60 mph, the bike just had no power. i could barely ride on the freeway...filled up a fresh tank, and tried riding it out. 40 miles down and the problem is still there. it almost feels like its a vacuum problem, or the bikes not getting fule. i already checked and ohmed the pickup wires last month when i went completely through the ignition system. everything was fine. 2 months ago i had completely gone through the carbs. this problem feels different than one ive already had. i know my petcocks are leaking, i have a petcock rebuild kit. i still have my octy, could that be causing a problem?

Try running your petcocks in the prime position. That will completely bypass the octy.

My octy went fruit on the way to Minnesota last summer and I rode the whole 1800-2000 miles on prime. Fixed the octy when I got home.

What could go wrong in the octy? Tried moving both petcocks around on every setting while in the freeway, no noticeable difference...

Like BA80 said if the prime position does not change anything then the octy is not the problem. An octy will fail if it leaks fuel or it will fail if there is not enough vacuum to open it. Other than the obvious lines to it, it is also possible to have a pinhole leak in the diagphragms on the octy valve. Point is that if it does not change while in the prime position the Octy is not at fault.

Just a note here but if the petocks are leaking it will not matter at all when the bike is running. Fuel is supposed to run through them then so no big deal.

I think you need to check all the ignition components again. I went through the same thing when I first got my 11. An ignition problem can really seem like a fuel problem.

Pulled the carbs multiple times and finally discovered an intermittent pickup coil wire problem.

I guess I gotta go back to the pickup coils...could the vacuum advance fail?

No.......the hose plugged into the #2 carb. If it holds vacuum the diaphragm is good.

You'll have to pull the left engine cover to make sure the breaker plate and centrifugal advance is free.

the hose in the number 2 carb is coming from the vacuum behind the left engine cover? and the the octy feeds a vacuum line into the #2 carb boot?

id drop ur main jets down a size or 2,
if there to big itll act the way ur saying,
also check the size of ur air jet, if its 180/85, drop back ur pilot
jets back to 42.5, if the air jet is around 210 then the
45 pilots should be fine, have a look at ur plugs
il bet there running way rich.
