  • Side Cover Safety

Has anyone figured out a way to bolt on (or other method) side covers. Tired of losing them on the road.

Thinking of fishing line running through the bike and out a small hole in the side cover. Id you need to get to the tools or fuses you just cut the line.

A second alternative would be a bolt into the mounting plate for the fuses on the right and a Riv-nut in the tool box lid on the left side.

    Thanks,

Why not replace the rubber doo-hickies that hold them on? The bottom one on the right is available OEM and the top ones you may source from Mike's XS.

I've never lost one in ??????? miles on the highway. The right side has good rubber 'dohickys" and the left one has the hook broken off the latch but I just stuck a piece of duct tape over the end and shoved it in there and it stays good.

Drill holes and use nylon zip ties, easy than fish line or string ought to carry a few in your toolbox for spares and repairs any way

I agree, replace tge rubber. I got a rubber electrical bulkhead groomed for 30 cents at ace for the lower one on the right side and it is nice and tight.

mine was also broke... dill a hole in the latch piece and another in the cover 90° to each other and close together as possible, zip tie them together in the correct (locked) posistion and use masking tape to build a dam for JBWeld (gluing latch to cover) leave zip-tie in place and cover it with the JB took about three separate sessions with the tape and fill, but latch to cover angle is thicker and stronger than before

On those two top pins all you need is some vacuum hose that fits tight to slip over them. As for the grommets, MIKES has some that may work where they pop in.

In a couple of weeks I will have a repair kit ready for the left side-covers. It consists of a black powder coated aluminum bracket that replaces the lock mechanism, and an aluminum pin that is attached to the side cover. All of the hardware is stainless steel. When installed, the side-cover will attach just like the right side.

I've been working on this for a few months now and it would be done if I could find more time.

There is no may about it. Part #02-6501 and #02-6504 in your link are the correct parts for the SF sidecover. They are also correct for the E and the F sidecovers. The second part is available OEM.

You guys have had better luck with the rubber "dohickeys" than I have. Just lost a side cover off my KZ Police bike and it's going to cost a bunch for a nice replacement. Looking for something with a positive lock rather than a friction lock.

Thanks for all the suggestions. May try the plastic ties.
