im pretty sure i just found the miss. i bought a new cap to be safe. i took the old one apart again and this time the spring popped out and was rusted and corroded to ****. also looking deeper in the screw well theres a bunch of rust. tested the resistor it was fine but i put it back together and tested the ohm and there was no signal. testing the new plug cap is just over 5k ohms.

i may have just dodged a bullet. put the new cap in started it up and held it at rev and no smoke!

coils are reading about 12k ohms though but seem to be working fine?

    are they starting to go?

That is correct for the late 3 ohm coils, so you're good...

starting to seem like a valve isnt seating, pretty sure the smoke is oil burn

I don't know the history of your bike, but stuck rings are a common problem for a bike that has sat for a while, usually running it a good bit will free them up and the smoke will stop.
