    need carb help asap.

    have 81 xj 1100h.

just got stock main jets. 115 and 120.

po put in 132.5 with pods and exhaust and the bike wouldnt run past 4500 rpm.

opened float bowls and there is no washers on the main jets. jets are just screwed in with no washers.

tried putting on washers and there isnt enough thread length to get a good grip. please advise!

do i need the washers? i dont wanna mess this up

You either have the wrong jets or the tubes aren't in all the way. Are you sure you have XJ carbs on there?

Parts fiche does show the washer. The one I have here is 1.5 mm thick and 10 mm OD. It just takes up a tad more than the non-threaded area on the Mikuni large round jet. Any chance of a pic of how far in it sits? If the washer you have is too thick it could be not able to thread in but it would have to be really thick. If the emulsion tube is not all the way in it would barely be able to catch the threads. There is a slot and pin on the emulsion tubes to insure correct installation. Double check that they are in the slots.

On the end the jet screws into is a slot in the tube, inside the tunnel where the tube slides in is a small pin on the right side,(when sitting on the bike) that the slot in the tube fits to. Are they lined up?

the emulsion tube is not seated far enough it needs to go in farther.

The winner here gets to be Metricbiker if we solve his problem, and that is all that counts.

yes thew pin is lined up properly. there is a gap between the emulsion tube and washer about a quarter in.

i need to tap the emulsion tube in farther so its flush with the washer.

just need to know how to do this without destroying emsulsion tube

I've found that if the emulsion tube and the hole it goes in are perfectly clean, it will pretty much drop in. The slightest bit of dirt or corrosion will make it hard to install....

A small round brass brush works well for cleaning the hole out and polishing the outside of the tube with some 0000 steel wool will take care of that....

Tap it in from the diaphram side carefully with somthing softer than metal like a wooden dowel or a screwdriver handle, just don't distort the end. Best way is to clean it off like Steve suggested.
