  • R6 left control mod

ok so after 2 weeks i finally got my left control from a 2004 R6. i wanted to change the left control because like many other members the headlight control knob keeps breaking and the solder on the turn signal switch keeps coming detached. i wanted somthing more modern and durable.

here a picture of the r6 and the xs1100 controls...

    heres the wiring...

ok so this is the wiring xs1100 wiring on the left r6 on the right

I have a very similar one on mine. OEM controls are very easy to swap and the feel is so much nicer. The best part is the large supply out there.

This isn't a straight swap; you have to identify the wires and what they connect to.

On your XJ, the wires are:
Pink, goes to the horn button. You'll have continuity to ground (black) when pushed.
Black/blue; power to the high/low headlight switch.
Yellow; high beam, to the gauges. When the switch is on 'high', you will have continuity between this and the black/blue.
Green; low beam, same check as yellow except on 'low' (you didn't list this wire, but it should be there).
Black, ground wire for both the turns and horn.

The rest are turn signal wires.
Brown/white is incoming power. If you're removing the XJ hazard switch, this needs to connect to the brown/white coming from the flasher to the hazard switch.
Yellow/red; this connects to the flasher canceller, and will have continuity to ground (black) when the switch had been pushed either way (left/right). If you manually cancel at the switch, this should read open to ground.
Chocolate (dark brown) goes the the left signals. You will have continuity between this and the brown/white when the switch is pushed left.
Dark green goes to the right signals. Same as left.

Because the colors don't match, you'll either have to get a wiring diagram for the specific bike the controls are off of to identify them, or manually trace the wires to see what the function is (I'd recommend the latter to be sure).
