Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

Occasionally we've all had to hammer a stuck shaft BUT you should install the nut before you do. The castellated nut should be threaded on backwards. This will help save your threads.
The shaft itself was slightly rusty and had a lot of dried greasy grime stuff.
A little pb blaster and some acetone and it cleaned up real nice.
unfortunately I think my threads got too beaten up but I just got done pulling the shaft off my SG so I'll use that one until I can figure out what to do about the messed up one.

I have a Harbor Freight "thread cleaner" kit. It does NOT have much metric, but it DOES HAVE a metric thread FILE! I've used it to clean a few larger bolt threads, and with a little work, they are like new. You should be able to find just the file at most good auto parts stores, as well.

Had that same issue with Banshee when I first got it. Both axles were corroded in place from sitting still for years in the elements. I always use a block of wood between the bolt and the hammer until it gets even with the mating surface, then I use my 3/8" ratchet extension as a "pushrod" and rubber mallot. If the rubber mallot won't do it, back to the BFH. But the small end of the extension is smaller than the threaded area on the axle.
As to your axle, If it were me, I would use a file of some sort like Ray suggested and clean the threads up as much as possible, then buy a large nut of the same threading at the hardware store and use that to finish "rethreading" it. Typically they clean up pretty well using that method.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

While beating my axle shaft out with my 3lb sledge, I might have messed up my threads.
Are the axle shafts the same on the SG and G?
I've got a box of axles. PM me with your adress. i can priority mail it to you. Just pay for mail. I believe around $5.00 if it fits the bos I've got in mind.
BTW: front or rear?
