  • xs11 carb diaphram spring

hey all. i was doing spring cleaning on the 78 xs11e carbs and found that one of the diaphram springs is bent. i found one on ebay for a 78 xs750e and was wondering if anyone knows that this would work. that is since the 750 is basically the 1100 with one less cyl.

would greatly appreciate any input as i'm ready to get this thing back on the road and enjoy some nice cool weather riding!

How bad is it bent? Had one that was a bit crooked (the coils were not kinked) but it just was not straight. Was a bit longer than the rest also. I accidentally stepped on it when I dropped it on the floor. I carefully straightened it out with some needle nose pliers and made sure it was the same height as the rest. Ran it for years and though I do not run those carbs anymore, that spring is still in my retired set of carbs.

        Are you sure

Steve, the triple carbs I'm working on now have diaphragms and springs identical to the 78 even carbs I was salvaging the fuel T's for.

Spring rate also matters though. Length and diameter can be the same but strength can.be different.

The parts fiche show the diaphrams/slides as the same, but not the springs; as Nate said, it's probably a different rate....

A slight bend in the spring should be no problem. The caps have a circular flange to center the spring...

thanks for all the great replies!

i was afraid it would be different. springs this size can have such subtle differences. spring rate is something i was concerned about. and with the age of the springs, if i can find em new, replace em all at once.

straightening out is my last resort. the bent coil is stretched out and kicked to one side. i'm concerned there will be a weak point in the spring after this if i start bending.

i'll not throw it out tho! all this stuff is to valuable! i'll use if no other option.

if anyone runs across a good sample please let me know.

i'll keep lookin and watchin ebay. a much wiser shopper for sure!
