Will it not come off with vice grips? If you can get a hold, maybe you could take a grinder and grind of the side a little to get a good bite. Just a thought, i have had to do that before and i belive partsnmore sells the bolt.Jeff

i could get it with vice grips, but i dont want to take it off until i get a new one and since its my only transportation at the moment, i will wait on it. the filter has only gone through one oil cycle so it wont kill it to just chill in the housing until i get a new bolt this week.79 XS11 special "Loki" - homemade 4-2 exhaust, pod filters, rebuilt forks with progressive springs, tkat fork brace, progressive shocks, rebuilt all brakes and MC's, rebuilt carbs with #142.5 main and #42.5 pilot, a custom front and chin fairing, and a handmade set of saddlebags....

Pretty hard to get a good square grip with the vice grips as the bolt head is not flush with the rest of the casting and you can't get on it square. I have the same problem and I've decided to sacrifice mine and have a new bolt here now for the next oil change. Next time its whatever it takes1970? Honda Z50... gone

WSL91, im going to do the same...i screwed it up a bit last oil change and remember thinking i should order another one but forgot.
joab, i usually just change my filter every oil change on all my vehicles, ive had trucks race cars and now bikes, just a little 'peace of mind', as filters arent expensive. however i did put some marvel mystery oil and motul motorcycle engine restorer before changing the oil, and ran it a few times ( ran, not ride, big difference ) before changing the oil, and with the change got most of it out but if not mistaken, the filter housing holds about a half quart so im sure some of that stuff is still in there...79 XS11 special "Loki" - homemade 4-2 exhaust, pod filters, rebuilt forks with progressive springs, tkat fork brace, progressive shocks, rebuilt all brakes and MC's, rebuilt carbs with #142.5 main and #42.5 pilot, a custom front and chin fairing, and a handmade set of saddlebags....

oil filter bolt
This has happened to many guys, and there have been as many posts as to the solution. I ground down the edges of the bolt with a Dremel to the next smallest(11mm) size, and managed to get it off. There was a smart post about taking the old, mangled bolt and welding a larger head on the end; more leverage. I've still got that bolt, but never got around to the mod. I just learned to go easy on the install.

On my xj650 I ended up using a 1" step drill to take the head off after getting a new bolt. The new bolt I got from the stealership had a much deeper head, the hex was about 1/2" deepBARE BONES CHOPPERS: If it don't make it go faster, you don't need it!
