  • New tire time

    So here's what I've got:

Shinko Tourmaster 230, bought from Bike Bandit last April.
I just spent a few mins trying to figure out how many miles I've put in this tire.
    Since last spring:
Spent all summer with a burnt a hole in a piston, and the bike was down for over 3 months,
Back in Jan my Speedo blew up.

So, I had to do some figuring on miles to from work, etc.
so I've concluded that I've got about 10k miles on this rear tire.

So, I'm ordering the Shiko 712 from Bike Bandit tommorow.
Until then, I'm tethered to my wife's Jeep Liberty.
Not to mention the not so great mileage that it gets.
So, at $4/gal, going from 37mpg to 22mpg for a 60mile total commute each day is going to add up. Fortunately, I'm off next week for spring break with the kids.

The last, and I mean LAST tourmaster I had was worn out between oil changes. I've had pretty good luck with the 712s.

I finally wore out the Dunlop Elite III I've had on the rear of my SG since about this time last spring and my front is used up too so I ordered a set of 712s. Just gotta get the time to get them mounted. Mine isn't near as bad as yours but it has a spot where a couple of cords are showing. I can't believe you rode on that as worn as it is. Just knowing I have a couple cords showing puckers my anal oraface riding at highway speeds.

        This is what I've got.......

That E3 has about 12 - 14 K I think, that's damn good for me. I generally get about 6K out of a good tire.

I put a set of Shinko Tourmasters on mine about 500 miles ago. Seems to be a good tire. If I get 10k out of them I'll be happy. For under $200 mounted and balanced I was willing to take the gamble, regardless of Greg's "the rear only lasted 2000" mile warning. I have a feeling Greg is a little harder on his XS than me

I bought my 2 Bros slip on for my R1 from JC's... they didn't have it in stock so they gave me another 15% off and had it dropped shipped direct from 2 bros. took a few extra days... but for almost another $40 off I was willing to wait. Great guys!

I went with the 712s as well, so far so good! Well, at least they hold the bike up as it sits broke in my garage

I work nights, and I have no driveway, just pull through the grass and dirt to get into the garage...I hadn't even noticed how bad the rear had gotten till I knocked the grass and dirt off it one day because I saw something shiny underneath...

Needless to say, I keep a closer on things now!

Sorry. i guess i was reminiscing

My commute is 30 miles each way (all interstate)
So, early last week at the gas station, I was walking back to the bike and saw that I had no tread left. (bald) I decided to keep a much closer eye on it.
So just the other day (at the gas station again) I saw 2 spots where the thread started showing thru.
So then next day I chanced it and tried to get one more day out of him.
Got home and look at that!
                              So, It's done for now.

A couple of years ago, I wasn't as cautious, and it blew out on me on the interestate at about 65mph. Man that was SCAREY
Now, I have a whole lot more respect for keeping good rubber on the road.

I have priced the 712's around and I think Bike Bandit will be the best.
I ordered from them last year and I've got a few 'bandit bucks' on my account, so that will offset some of the S&H. I know MC Superstore has free shipping, but only if your order is more than $89 and one tire is less than that.

I've got a tourmaster on the front that I put on about the same time last year as the back and it's still got about a 1/4 of it's life still left in it.
But as we all know the fronts don't take half as much as the rears do.

With my commute, I put about 15k miles on each year. My plan now (once I get my SG up and running) is to share the mileage between the two.
