So, now that I know that I've got a Mac 4 into 2, the next question is what else is a compatible replacement?
I've got rust holes starting on the headers and don't know how much longer they'll hold up.

Your choices are limited to what's available new, what you can find used, and how much you want to spend. barrelguy said he has a set of stock downpipes in good condition for $50 and there are aftermarket slip on mufflers you can get for around $100.

A new Mac exhaust, which is pretty much all that's available new, will cost you around $350-$400 depending on what style.

Otherwise your going to be camping on ebay waiting for whatever comes up.

          Hi George,
If I were you. I would grab those header pipes for $50 and look around for some mufflers to put on them. Some Harley mufflers are available for free or a few$$ more.
Shiny new chrome too As you are already tuned for no cross over performance should be the same.

^exactly. I have a set of Hardly muffs I'll be willing to send ya for $20 plus shipping. Which, combined with the previously mentioned headers and collectors, and a tiny touch of xsive enginuity and u have yourself a funky and funktional custom exhaust!

Be aware that the Special headers are slightly different from the standards unless you trim all of what's left of the Special mufflers off....

                Hey George,

I sent you a PM a while back regarding your tires and being able and willing to assist you in changing them when you got new ones.

I do have a welder, and I've gotten some nice collection of pipe and stuff that I plan on working on making a set of pipes/headers to see how difficult it will be. I'm trying to find some fabrication work that my brother-in-law can possibly do, and help out the membership at the same time.

So....if you would like, we can first see about at least putting some patches on your holes UNTIL I/we can get the prototype set of headers produced, and then you can be the Product TESTER by putting them on your machine!

SO....drop me a line if you're interested in getting together to play/work on your machine. I've just been busy these past several weeks with a very machine work intensive mod....figuring out how to put modern calipers on my wonky Special forks....not an easy process I've learned! But I'm getting close, I may not get them done this weekend, but will be soon, and then I'll be posting a thread about it. But after seeing all that I've had to do, I will be highly suggesting that folks DON'T try to do it, just rebuild their OEM calipers, or put STANDARD forks on their Special and then do Steve's Caliper upgrade mod...much simpler bracket design and work!

                  thanks tc.

My holes are real small right now so I'm in no big hurry, just trying to do some research to see what's available.
My kids come visit next Monday for spring break, so I'll be busy too. Maybe towards the end of April I can swing by and you can test out that new welder of yours.
