  • Exhaust question

I thought I had a stock exhaust, but every fiche I look at, there's a crossover pipe.
So my question is: Does every XS11 Standard have the crossover pipe? (I know the specials have them)
If that's the case, then my pipes are not stock, because I have no crossover.
My 4 individual downpipes are getting quite rusty, I've even got a few 'small' holes in 2 of them.

I guess it's time to snap a pic this afternoon and post it up so you guys can comment.

Has anyone found a good replacement for the down pipes?
I was browsing MikeXS and saw a number of setups for the 650's and such and was wondering if any other year's/model's pipes would fit our 11's?
I don't have a welder or any heavy duty cutting tools, so it'd have to almost plug and play for it to work for me.

Was it the xs750's or 850's that had 4 exhaust pipes? Would those exhaust systems work with our 11s?
Just trying to broaden my fleabay/craigslist search options.

    Thanks,

750s and 850s were both tripples. I had thought the 750 was a 4 but I was corrected a while back. XJ and XS 1100s are the only OEM pipes that fit.

      Headers

I have a set of stock/original headers from my SG. No mufflers as they were shot but you could easily fabricate a connection to aftermarket mufflers. The headers are in very good shape and muffs were cut off just aft of the collectors.
Send me a PM if interested $50 plus shipping.

        Nobody actually answered your question....

Yes, all the OEM XS exhausts have the crossover. The Specials/81H just have a simple tube, the '78-80 standards have a larger 'chambered' crossover. The only aftermarket exhaust that also had a crossover AFAIK is the Jardine 'slip-on' mufflers that could be installed by cutting off the stock muffs.

None of the XS models were 4 cylinders except the 1100. The XJ 750-850 however were 4 cylinders. Someone here was at one time attempting to get one of the small XJs exhaust to fit but it didn't go well and never really worked.

Yes, they had crossover pipes. Or, more accurately, balance pipes or chambers. They equalise the back pressure between pairs of pipes and the engine benefits from them being there. $ into 1's obviously don't have them but any 4 into 2 system really should have them, IMO

I see you've received an offer of headers at $50. I wish I could get them at that price here in the UK.

That is a Mac 4 into 2 aftermarket system with the taper tip mufflers. No crossover.

+1 on that Greg, I just checked the MAC set that I have and they are the same as the pictures. I don't think MAC was ever really known for their quality chrome, but they will make your bike be heard from a distance. http://www.xs11.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

On both my bikes. They are a little loud but I like to hear my engine.

I can't really hear it in the highway though. I get some sound up into my helmet when I have it on but without I can barely hear it at all.
