  • Carb Adjustment

I went looking for carb adjustment stuff and i couldn't find much for step by step, i did find this site but it isn't quite what i'm looking for. If anyone knows of a place for step by step instructions on where to start, i'd appreciate it if i can get a link.

I looked up my symptoms hoping to find a thread linking my problem with a solution, and i wasn't having much luck with that either.

I put different carbs on my bike and it runs like a top at idle and when i'm driving it and i roll the throttle at a low to mid-ranged pace. But when i try to accelerate faster when i'm at a low/cruising rpm, it stutters bad. i don't know what to do next.

    Any info is appreciated.

I guess the first thing everyone will ask is what different carbs did you put on your bike and how are they jetted. At first blush it sounds like you are lean on the main jets.

The CV tuning guide you have in your link is a good method if you are willing to do the work. It makes you tune from top down so you are going to be taking your carbs off several times for jet changes to find the sweet spot on all the fuel circuits and the very first thing you will tune for is mains (which may solve your problem).

One other thing, make sure your ignition and valves are right before you go after the carbs.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

The bike is a 79 xs1100 special and the carbs are off of a 78 xs1100. I have pod filters and 4 to 1 kerker exhaust and the jets are 140 across the board for the mains. I don't remember what the signs are when your mains are rich vs lean and I don't remember the signs of the floats being to low or high either. So this is giving me a headache...

Last summer we got everything new for the ignition and I checked spark yesterday and that was strong, and the valves all look good and are set correctly, we did that towards the end of the season last fall.

Pilot jets are correct main jets are wrong. You linked to the small round main jets and those are used as the air jets in the In take bell of the carb but are too small further main fuel jet. These are correct for the main fuel jet http://nichecycle.com/ProductDesc.as...ain-jet&key=it

Why not get the larger headed mains to match stock? However, functionally, I believe the smaller diameter will also work well as I have used them.
