Then either the ON or RES function would allow gas to flow to empty. From the sounds of it they aren't that important and not really worth spending $60 on. To be honest...some crafty form of those brass tubes could be another option. I will do some playing as my petcocks are dissasembled anyways. On a side note, those towers are a pain in the, you know what, to get out without snapping them off inside the body. I will post a pic if I can get something worth while rigged up.
I've often thought of brazing a couple of stand pipes into mine to remove the rest of the screen. I've ran mine to "RES" 3 times now and like the fact it works. I'm a firm believer in 'if it works don't fix it' So I've just left mine the way it is. I've yet to encounter a blockage problem. And I've got about 5k miles on it since i snipped the broken screen out and installed inline filters. YMMV

+1 that extra 20 to 30 miles of gas is a life saver when your up on a mountain where towns are spread out. I've flipped mine to "Res" coming back down the Spirit Lake Hwy off of Mt St Helens once. You leave I-5 to head up to the observatory theres a town right off the freeway (Castle Rock) and then one between the freeway and the top of the mountain (Toutle). so you have to either be smart and stop in the middle and top off or hope your nice enough to the throttle to make it up and back down without running out of gas. I rolled the dice once, it was not a good idea. Thank god for steep grades and neutral
