high pitched hum when im on the gas....

I noticed today that i have a high pitch whine under power, and i can only here it when i give it gas and at lower than 40 mph....

earplugs! It's that simple. I can ride further and faster without the noise from wind, exhaust roar, intake drone and mechanicals of a 30+ year old bike.
My dear departed father-in-law claimed he could drive his Hillman Minx another 1,000 miles on a worn out engine if he turned his hearing aid off.

Mine makes a sound like a cricket chirping at around 40 mph. I thought it was the speedo cable. Could that also be the trans?

jat, have u checked ur spark plugs are tight
also a cross threaded plug can make that noise.
