Clutch adjustment screw

I was getting excited as I had my bike finally finished and running in my living room, last thing to do was start her up on the centerstand and test the new clutch cable I installed. After I started her I grabbed the clutch and pushed it down to first, she gave a jerk and the back tire started spinning... I thought well okay, clutch adjustment is off. I pulleD the side cover and found the adjustment screw almost stripped out completely due to the PO



I tried adjusting it per the manuals instructions and still could not get the clutch handle to do anything. Is it possible to change the adjusting screw without taking the side of the tranmission off? Anything else I'm not doing? I feel the resistance and backed it off a 1/4 turn, then tried 1/8th. Nothing. And if I do need to replace the adjusting screw does anyone happen to have one for cheap? Boats.net has them but it'll be about 17.00 after shipping.

Did you try adjusting the handle end of the cable? Make sure that there is only about 2mm of free-play at the lever. Just for kicks, you could try removing ALL the free-play to be sure that the lever is definitely disengaging the clutch when pulled in all the way.

Take the lock nut off and use a hacksaw or a small cutting wheel on your drill and cut a slot for a flatblade scrrewdriver for adjustments.

The rear wheel is going to spin even when the clutch is in when it's off the ground. Try holding the rear brake when you slip it into gear.

The handle adjustment is correct.

I can push the back brake and stop the tire. Have not tried it eith the clutch out. So if I have it in 1st gear with the clutch out when I press the back brake it should stall, correct? How do I know if it is engaging and releasing fully?

If it's on the ground, and you're sitting on it, you should not move forward when the clutch is pulled in. Your weight should be enough to hold it still. Greg is correct that there is a little friction that will turn the rear wheel if it is up in the air. Is the wheel really cranking at idle, or just a light spin? If everything is correct, holding the rear brake down should not affect the engine when the clutch is pulled in. Let out the clutch, and that's a different story.

Well perhaps I did do everything correct then. I'll get her pushed out of the house today and give the clutch another test.

i pulled my carbs for a cleaning the other day and put the in my kitchen sink to just spray off the dirt and grime. you would have thought i set her parents house on fire again. lesson learned.

Got the bike out of the house (finally). Clutch works great! Been able to ride her a few days, sparingly of course(no license . But everything's good. Thanks for the help!
