You are talking about the single big knob idle screw in the center of the carb bank correct?

Try disconnecting the throttle cable and starting it just to humor us.

I would also suggest from this point on all post retaining to this issue be posted in.the same thread rather than starting a new thread each time. It helps us know the history rather than suggesting the same things over and over.

How did you set the #3 carb? When you use the bread tie method you need to adjust the idle screw to set it then use the sync screws to do the others.

As trdriver says #3 is non adjustable so every other carb has to be set to that. If you started your bread tie synch with #3 and set all others to be similar, then back the idle screw out so the butterflies are nearly closed then it should idle correctly. The cable does get hung up sometimes or mis-routed which will cause it as well. Sounds as though you have ruled that out.
Missing or leaking blind plugs on your carb boots or any othe intake leak will also cause rpm's to climb.
I think it was TRBIG who posted how to set things to the three small holes in the top of the carb and end up with hald of one of those holes showing to do a synch. Good solid advice and if I can find it I will repost it.
