Rear Master cylinder question

I buggered up the Plastic reservoir on my rear master cylinder.
using Lamrics part finder I could not find a part number for just the plastic part.

The whole part looks different from what I have.



The one on the left came off the F the one on the right is off an SG

Except for the reservior mounting they look the same.
Can I use the one from the SG?

If anyone knows why the change?

Everything about how it will mount and how I would expect it to function looks identical between the two, should be fine to swap them.

Don, there's two versions of the rear reservoir, just like the front one....

The one on the left is the 'early' style, and the reservoir is retained in place with a round metal plate and two screws. The right one is the 'late' type, and is held on by threaded studs that stick out of the master cylinder body, go through the reservoir and it's all held on by the cap and three nuts. Yamaha never listed these as separate parts, you could only get them by buying a whole new master (although some have turned up as separate parts???).

Why the change? Who knows.... Either one will work, but do check the bore size on the newer style as I've run into some 14mm versions that I haven't been able to find rebuild kits for. Stock bore is 1/2" and is marked on the body.

I noticed those differences Steve, I also see two small buldges underneath the reservior area on the left one that are not on the right one. But, that was why I stated, "Everything about how it will mount and how I would expect it to function "

Hard to make it out in the picture but; both are stamped 1/2".
Stands to reason since the kit from the buggered up one fit the new one with no problems. part fit on the bike with no issues.
Will bleed and adjust the brakes tomorrow.
Had enough for tonight.
