    Almost there

Had to take some time away. You know how life can interfere with our fun!

I almost have the tuning right, but one final problem.

I can get the idle right with the main idle adjustment.

Using a carbtune, I can get #4 to match #3.

    I can get #1 to match #2.

But when I try to bring left side to the right, #1 and #2 separate. It is not by much, but out of the accepted range. It seems the other three can be equal, but #1 is always 5-6 lower.

I am thinking of riding it this way and see if use evens them out, or makes adjustment possible. Perhaps a little Seafoam in the mix.

    Any suggestions?

      Finally got it done

I finally got those things balanced and took it out for a 20 mile ride. Wow, this thing really purrs when it is set right.

I think it can still use some small adjustments, but it has been work the effort.

Now to work on the little slow speed front end wobble.

Are your wheels balanced properly? Especially the front wheel. Also, the triple tree bolts and axle et all need to be tightened up in the correct order. Tyre pressures need to be correct.

If you check the threads, you'll find the JamesEngland patent DIY wheel balancer. I had a wobbly wheel on my XJR. My miraculously cheap device cured it!

You're doing good work, Jimmy. Tweaks are almost done. Tire balance, pressures are critical. My bike likes 10% under max sidewall inflate for solo riding. Handles well, rides a little smoother than full inflate. I have a Pacifico too. NO lowers when it's warm! I cut about 8" off the windshield. Got a little airflow over it for cooler riding (lived in OK then) and now in the PNW, I don't have to look through a water spotted shield when I get caught out in the rain. Main air stream grazes the top of my helmet. If your model fairing has air vents, ride with them open. It minimizes head buffeting. Ride all year!
I wish you well on the bug too. VWs and XS11s are both chronic, uncureable afflictions.

            Clarification

Don't think I was clear when I said low speed. The wobble I was talking about is from 2-5 MPH. Above that, everything's fine up to 80. Don't know about above that. Yet. I have a feeling I am a much more sedate rider than most of the folks here.

I will be checking the pressures, balancing and adjustments to see about those.

I had considered cutting the windshield as well. I know on my VT750 ACE the windshield turned the air flow just where it hit my helmet so there was quite a bit of buffet. My son has it now, so I will get some measurements from him before deciding. It was over 100 degrees yesterday when I went out, but it was not too bad behind the ventless windshield - for a sort ride.

I agree on the bugs and bikes. My first car was a 1966 Bug. Then a 1968. Now I am all the way up to a 1977. At least I started with a 1978 bike rebuild.

My Pacifico is a little different design than yours. It has 2 vents with flaps. When I found out they were to help balance air flow and limit buffeting, I blocked them permanently open. Gives me smooth flowing air to ride in, much reduced buffeting. Side winds not so much. Cut the shield down way below the sight line, like it a lot. Get air on my shoulders. Feels good through the mesh jacket when I'm over in the valley or east of the Cascades.
