Soak the fibres for a while in the oil you plan to use before installing them. Be very careful installing the star plate on the clutch as that can lead to problems you do not want. I would suggest new bolts for the star plate as well. They are cheap and can save you mucho time. I have seen more than a few of those bolts have stretched threads. If you see any that appear to be stretched save yourself the heartache and get new ones.
The other thing that comes to mind is their is a washer in that clutch assembly that has only one direction to install. Off the top of my head I can not remember which way it goes but if installed backwards it will not be right. Their is a crown for lack of better terms that must face the outside to properly work IIRC. Good luck with your install.

These are the same for the XS650 and XS1100. Mike's XS has them.

Got the clutch installed the other day. Nice being able to twist the thottle and off i go. First time i rode the judge sence september. Wasent to hard though. Want to be easy and break in the clutch. Over all would of only took me about 40 min to tear appart and install. But waiting on parts and searching for a 27 mm sicket. Easy maitnace for any novice grease monkey.

Dang I had that long engine mount bolt in from the wrong side! I had to remove the bolt to remove the foot peg- Duh. I installed some new EBC springs 2 weeks ago and posted on here how 1 of them measured under spec. That was bugging me so yesterday I installed some new Barnetts. Im gonna change the bolt on that mount today and run it in from the left side.

            Harrington,

You don't have to remove that bolt, just once you loosen the nut on the other end, the bolt can be loosened so you can rotate the footpeg up out of the way, but if you want to be able to actually take off the peg, then by all means route the bolt from the other side!
