            Troney,

I'm not sure I'd be too keen on lowering that bike. Mine has 140/200 Progressive springs on the back and custom wound springs on the front. I still manage to scrape the center stand on left turns and the exhaust on the right. I'm assuming here that the XJ is similar enough to the XS Special for comparison.

Shorter shocks in back will lower it there, and in front you can raise the forks in the trees, (if there's room) or put a spacer under the damper rod.

I took the following from another thread:
you might want to lower the bikes' front end down an inch at the same time, then slide the 1 inch spacer between damper rod and inner tube, results in a 1 inch lower front end, 1 inch less fork travel, and stiffer springs.

I actually don't have a center stand on my bike. I actually need to lower the back end at least. I don't like not being able to manhandle the bike if I need too. Just not enough leverage. The front can wait or even not happen it I can get at least 1" drop.

Thought I would come back to this as I have not been able to find any rear shocks locally. I was wondering if something like this would work?

Also since I don't have the option of lowering the tree on the front end I was wondering how I would lower those?

                      Won't work on an XJ..........

Well went in to get a safety done today and it FAILED. lol but not by much. Seems i've got a gremlin in the electrical and my front brake pad is done. The gremlin is that my front left signal light isn't really blinking it is trying to but not a full flash. And for my brakes What pads do i use on the front?

                          Almost there. Sigh

start cleaning electrical connections and grounds and that will most likely fix the turn signal issue. I think the XJ uses the same front pads as the specials do, so that leads me to ask a couple questions...

What was wrong with with the pads? Does it look like the pads are real thin on one side and then real thick on the other? That's how the pads are shaped. If the inspector didnt know that (and why would he) he would think that the pad is almost gone. Double. heck before you go throwing money at something that is actually a problem.

The XJ uses different front pads from all the XS bikes except for the LH; the rear pads are the same as the Special fronts....

The XJ front brakes are conventional single piston floating calipers, just not the same as it's older cousins. They share calipers with some of the newer XV bikes
