    front brake master

OK, here we go, so I bought new front brake master cylinder for my bike from Mike's. There is an adjustment screw, I think it's for the piston for the brake, any idea's? and how does the adjustment work? it has a nut lock on it so you can lock the adjustment in place. My original equiptment doesn't have an adjustment... I'm lost. and not to start another thread,,, I used the mity-vac to bleed the brakes and that thing was useless.(could be just me) Bled the brakes the old fashion way.was way easier for me. How far should the brake handle go in(EX. half way?) thanks all

Is the adjustment screw on the MC body, or on the lever? The lever should have the screw, and that presses directly onto the piston. That is the "free-play" adjustment. On mine, if I squeeze really hard, I can get the lever to go down almost exactly halfway to the grip.

I have mine backed off about 1/16 of an inch before it engages mc piston, works fine that way for me

That's about the same for me. Just back the screw out all the way, then screw it in until just before it touches the piston. Then clamp down the lock nut. You just want to be sure you have a LITTLE free-play so you're not applying brake pressure when you don't want to be.

not all master cylinders work, has to be the one for duel front brakes,or 1 front and rear in your case.

You need to match bore size for the best results; going smaller or larger will change the 'feel' of the brakes and you might have issues with lever travel.

Just a note on what Cuda has said here: The rear master does both the front left and rear brake work. The front only does one side on the front. Mikes does have one IIRC that is only 1mm difference in size.
If DamnXJ is simply replacing the front master it only needs to work on one disc. If he is to modify to accept both fronts then he would need the dual model.

I've got one going on ebay here a little later tonight. I converted my XJ to a dual front setup de-linked to the rear and the original working XJ M/C will be up for sale beginning at 6:00pm Pacific.
