I have all special ground screwdrivers for the carbs various screws and jets specifically for each one, just didn't take my own medicine and take my time at this point, the springs are kinda stiff which contributed, but I should have know better. Now its going to cost.

Does anybody know the actuall thread diameter/pitch of these mixture screws for the 79 Special? I bet if I could find some brass allen heads that small and long enough, I could make them on my drill press.

Got a quick question for anyone, ever drill out the pilot/air fuel mixture hole?? On my Xs1100, I figured out why it's running too lean and having a hard time starting/running without wide open choke, the mixture screws tips broke off inside the hole in the carb body blocking the passage, couldn't get the pieces to back out using a dental pick, down to drilling them out or scrapping carb bodies, and if thats my only choice, drilling it is. I have ultra small drill bits the right size and a drill press...any thoughts?

I was going to say something about getting those tips out before. They can be a bitch.

Some have successfully drilled them out with a pin vise.

Try putting the carbs in the freezer for about 3 or 4 hours and then try pushing them out. Sometimes that makes it easier.

Yep, I've drilled them out before. They are a bit more sensitive when trying to adjust with the enlarged holes but should work just fine. I would try the freezer method or other methods first leaving the drilling as a last resort. Search broken mixture screw for some other ideas.

Already tried freezer shrinking, to no avail, I'm thinking drilling is the next step, but i'll research a little more first, goint to wait a day or so for it to warm up out, snowing and cold here today.
