    your never too old...

to make a rookie mistake... Thanks to petejw from my previous thread, "exhaust popping", he suggested broken mixture screw tips, sure enough, over seated, and they got stuck in the housing and snap not one but three off....
Not only that, but they're stuck in there, didn't fiddle with them yet, I needed a mental break, plus the wind kicked up and temperature took a drastic change for the cold, I figure I'll be using a dental pick to pust them back out. So now as an added expense, I get to buy new ones...yaaaayyyy me!

On a positive note....the exhaust doesn't pop anymore after sealing the exhaust up completely.

My first clue should have been, only would run on nearly full choke...which I forgot to mention

Just ordered 4 new ones from MikesXS......
Lesson learned, will try and polish old ones for spares, I'll update once they get here and I install them.....but honestly, in my defense, those %%%% springs under the mixture screws, were kinda stiff making it difficult to tell when seated,(lame excuse) hope someone will benefit from my mistake.

Two of my mixture screws have somehow had the slot stripped so they are hard to adjust (Wasn't me, I swear!). I have a 1980 SG, stock carbs so far as I can tell. Which ones did you order, if you don't mind the query.
      1990 Ninja ZX-10. It's the Silver Surfer. HI-YA!!

2006 Yamaha XT-225. Yep, I take it on the interstate. It's Blue Butt.

1982 Toyota 4x4. 22R Cammed, 38/38, 2" pipe, 20R head with OS valves, performance grind and other fun stuff. It's Blue RASPberry.

1969 Ford F-250 Camper Special resto project. 390 RV cam, Demon carb, Sanderson headers, 2 and a quarter pipes with Magnaflow mufflers. It's Blue Jay.

I believe THESE are the ones you'll need for the stock SG carbs.

The 80 carbs used totally different screws than the 78 and 79 carbs do. The good thing is I've not heard of the tips breaking off on the 80+ carbs needles, but the screw slots are sure known for getting buggered on them though, so they basically traded one problem for another. That said, you can often carefully cut a new slot in them once, but then again they are pretty cheap, and you can get a complete kit from MikesXS with all the parts pretty cheap. The other problem is they added an o-ring and washer under the spring on the 80+ needles that if the o-ring gets flattened out too much can make it almost impossible to properly tune the idle mixture, cause the needle valve doesn't for some reason doesn't really fully seal and it leaks through there without that o-ring.

My bikes a 79SF so these were the ones I ordered, mine doesn't take the o-ring style, those happen to be the same ones my GS1100 takes though (o-ring)

I don't think those are the right ones for the SF. I've been looking and can't find the right ones. Maybe someone else can help.

I got new ones with my rebuild kits.

Well, I'm hoping the picture isn't some stock photo used but the actual item, it it is, and the thread is right, it will work, replacing all 4 will make the adjustments equal. I'll let you know when they get here, already ordered.

I found an old thread here which how I located them in the first place, time will tell, otherwise I'll have some mixture screws for sale on ebay real soon.

If you look real close at the bottom, it also says for the BS34

Yeah, just going by the pic. Hope I'm wrong.

If not, the kits w/mix screws are pretty cheap. You just gotta be careful about the jets.

I have found that a small diameter handled screw driver, custom ground, for the mixture screws AND two fingers on it while adjusting enables me to feel bottom accurately.
