    Hey Raph,
I've looked into this a bit. I like the procycle guages made my autometer. They are expensive..... also I would have to mount a proximity switch on the front wheel as their speedo's are electronic. Not too difficult, but I decided to be satisfied with a used 160mph speedo and newer looking tach. It's fun to look though. I think the web address is www.autometer.com. If not, just do a google search. Thats gotta be close.

      Thanks for your reply
I know these procycle instruments. The chrome white-face is nice-looking !! They're too expensive for me and can't find them on ebay, now I plan to mount mini tach and speedo.
Did you meet any difficulties when wiring your tach ? where do you connect it on the CDI ?
feel free to send me any pic of your gauges
      have a nice day

Sorry, I should have clairified. I used stock guages, just from another bike. I'm gonna try putting blue or red lights in them so they look better at night, but I think thats as far as I'm gonna go. As far as wiring is concerned, I'm not quite sure. Normally you would tap a coil wire, but the question is how often does that coil fire. I know of newer bikes that fire every rev. and the piston position deturmines whether or not there is combustion, but not sure about xs's specifically. I think most aftermarket tachs here in the states are rigged of v-twins, so finding the right one would take some homework. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

          Hey there Raph,

Unlike the OEM tach on our machines that is strangely wired with the alternator, most of the aftermarket tachs I've looked at all wire to the (-) side of the coils primary 12volt leads, not to the CDI persae!! The coils fire alternately, each one fires once with each revolution, providing spark to to cylinders, one on comp. stroke, one on exhaust stroke of the pair. I tried to find more info from some of the makers, but could only find general item info, not specific wiring or calibrating info!!??

The Procycle gauges are quite pricey. There is a set in the JCW, black face, but are quite economical!! There are also some tachs shown in the Dennis Kirk catalog. They show an electronic tach by SHINDY that's white face, but it's listed on the SHINDY web site as Daytona gauge, and after a search, found that
"Daytona Instruments" gauges is now owned by TCITECH or something like that. Good luck, most stuff you find seems to be for cruisers, with very high prices....all those Yuppies buying those wanna be Harley motorcycles!!

I live in Europe...and don't speak very well ; so a simple phone call becomes very expensive !
Many online vendors never answer tech question by mail ...

                      Hey there Raph,

Went to that web site, kinda pricey looking, mostly for Cruiser type bikes. I think what they're asking is whether for 1 turn of the front wheel, does the speedo cable shaft make only 1 complete rotation/turn, or does it take 2 turns of the front wheel for 1 rotation of the cable, etc.. I don't have mine apart, so I can't check, but perhaps someone else may know this, or you can take your Speedo cable out, block the front wheel up, and put something on one side of the cable so you can count how many times it rotates while you spin your front tire around once!?

I couldn't find much info on the Speedos on that web site!?
